On 2020-03-18 at 06:16 UTC our engineers identified an issue with the Hotjar dashboard. The dashboard was reporting that your Hotjar Tracking Code is not installed.
For a small number of users, the Hotjar Dashboard incorrectly displayed the Tracking Code as not installed. The Hotjar App stayed operational and data collection wasn’t affected. User websites were also not affected.
Why did this issue occur?
We released a change to make the Tracking Code Verification checking more performant. Doing this introduced a caching issue that, in some cases, reported that the Hotjar Tracking Code wasn’t installed.
What will we do to prevent this from happening in the future?
We will be improving our test coverage to prevent and detect similar issues from happening in the future. We’ll also be carrying out an internal post-mortem regarding this incident.
